Why we’re building it

A few videos.
An incomplete picture.

When I coached clients, I loved helping them through a session. But they also trained without me. I’d chase videos over text, then get a set or two from an angle that barely showed what they were doing.

I’d been a client, too. I knew how annoying it was to film everything. Spotter started with that gap: helping a coach understand the sessions they can’t attend, without asking clients to document every rep.

The intended workflow

The client trains.
The coach gets more context.

We’re developing an instrument for the coaching relationship. Gyms equip their coaches and clients; the coach puts the information to work.

  1. Wear it.

    The client wears the sensor-equipped shirt and pants for their strength session.

  2. Capture the session.

    The intended system captures muscle activity and movement as the client trains.

  3. Bring it back to coaching.

    The coach reviews the information to guide their next conversation, cues and training plan.

Working wireless sensing

We’ve developed a functional wireless EMG node: a sensor that reads muscle activity and connects to a computer.

The work ahead

Garment integration, validated motion tracking and the complete coach review system remain in development. The full apparel system is not yet available.
